we are a family with 3 children staying at Malina Village (our 3rd year) at Borovets.We normally stay at Rila Studios.But probably like so many this year found it very differcult to find vacant accommodation at a reasonable price (12th Mar 05 half term).I would like to know how far we'll be from the slopes how often shuttle bus, any imformation re journeying to and from the slopes would be very much appreciated..........can't wait!re: Malina Village
Stayed there with a couple of friends back in January.
The buses run fairly regularly, though I can't remember the times, I think they only run for two periods a day, morning and afternoon. I do remember not having much time to get breakfast and be on the bus to get to the slopes in time for our lessons though!
Taxis are quite cheap though.

The pick-up/drop-off point is outside Samokov Hotel, by the pub on the corner (I really ought to remember the name of it we spent so much time in there), which is easily accessible. I think we only got one ticket for the three of us, which meant that if any of us split up, we had to decide who got the bus ticket...
The setting for Malina is beautiful, a really nice spot about 10mins drive outside of town (remember that's 10mins in the snow, so probably only a couple of miles), in a pine forest. The chalets at Malina got quite cold, particularly the bathroom.

There are two restaurants at the three Villages malina, Jagoda and I think Poljana, but this is only for bulgarian. And the Royal Hotel, with the best view over the mountains from Borovez.

We caught the 9.00am bus as we needed to be at lessons for 10.00and had to drop the kids off at the kindergarten and then sort ourselves out. Guests of Inghams staying at the Malina/Yagoda use the ski depot under the Gondola.
The morning bus we found to be ok - a little busy but 2 or 3 came between 9/9 ...

The morning bus we found to be ok - a little busy but 2 or 3 came between 9/9.15am. However we only ever once managed to catch the bus in the evening as they stopped at 4.30pm in order to take the workers back to Samokov Village.
We found it too far to walk with the children (although some people did) so we tended to stay in town. The kids bum boarded etc and then we had tea and went back by taxi for shower & bed. We did go back one evening first but found it quite an effort to turn out again!! The kids were only 5 & 7!! Last year we stayed at The Alpin Hotel and found from an Apres Ski point of view this was much better and being our 2nd time skiing we were much less tired.
I'm sure that you will have a wonderful time. I quite agree the prices in February half term have really crept up. We can only go that week as I work at school and to be quite honest not sure our funds will run to it this year
We found it very busy last year but there are 2 weeks again for half term in 2005 like there was in 2003. Unfortunately ours is the one the tour operators know about!!

Thanks Ellie,and everyone else for info on malina village,we'll take extra money for cabs/horse and carts,we normally do a deal with one,and use same one preety much all week.You had better hurry and book Ellie,accomodation is getting shorter,if your'e on a tight budget we may meet up at the 'Malina/Yagoda Village'
We'll have to start training/road running to get fit for my journey to the slopes!
