Medical Facilities Pamporovo

Hi
I'm taking a school group next week to the resort and some of the parents of the children have been asking me about the medical facilities on the mountain and in the resort.
Can someone give me some details please. If for example there was a broken bone, stitches required or Appendicitis problem can it be treated in resort?
I'm aware that there is a new private medical facility open opposite the Murgavets Hotel-what level of treatment does it provide? Do they accept normal travel ...

I would be grateful if some of you could forward some details regarding this.
Many thanks.

Hi,
If you need any ant-biotics you can buy them over the counter in the chemist at the shopping mall joined to Perelik Hotel. Same type I get off doctor here in uk. My daughter got Tonsilitus when we were there couple of weeks ago and I got some.

Pat,
We are just back from Pamporovo and while there my daughter had a fall on the mountain. The instructor took her to a medical centre on the mountain to have her checked out and they x-rayed and bandaged her up. The medical team then arranged to meet us in our hotel reception that evening to obtain a copy of our insurance policy and we had to pay them the policy excess - they then obviously claim the balance directly?
I have also seen signs around the resort for medical centres.

re: Medical Facilities Pamporovo

If someone's injured on the mountain, there are ambulances to get them down. There's a 24 hour medical centre in the Snezhanka - we used it last year when my hubby injured his knee. They were able to treat him there with an injection and some anti-inflammetry tablets. We had to pay up front, then claim back from our insurance when we got home. I belive the nearest hospital is Sofia.

Pat,
We've taken school trips to Pamporovo for nearly 30 years (not me personally).
The nearest hospital is in Smoylan and it's (apparently -haven't been there personally but some of our staff have) quite basic. We had no complaints about the care though.
We have always stayed at the Snezhanka Hotel where there's a little clinic below with an x-ray machine. The doctor there has always been very thorough. We had a big flu epuidemic one year and he stayed up all night with us.

Do take a good bit of back up cash as you will have to pay about £70/£80 upfront. We take a large first aid kit with lots (and lots) of Strepsils, Calpol melts, imodium, senokot etc. Most vital is a good themometer - electronic one with good supply of ear caps.
We had two injuries in the ski groups this year - ice falling from a restuarant roof and an snow(ice)ball from point blank range causing nose-bleed. The instructor called the doctor at the mid-station who was there very quickly. We weren't charged although we've has xrays at the mid-station and they wouldn't let the kid go till they had all the insurance details.

Hope this helps - ask if you need more

regards

Alan
