I'm reasonably sure that someone once told me that good quality modern mobile phones can be swapped or at least part-exchanged for snowboards in Borovets.
However, the gentleman that told me hasn't been for a few seasons, so it's entirely possible that this has changed - does anyone have any experience of this ?
Our ski instructor told me pretty much the same thing last month. The Bulgarian networks haven't started subsidising the cost of handsets as the UK ones have and generally the cost of electronics in Bulgaria is higher than here. If you have a phone at the end of your contract/minimum prepay get it unlocked and you can get yourself a good deal on a snowboard. I'll be hanging on to any mobile I can get my hands on for the next year!
As long as it is a fairly up-to-date model then it can be worth something towards a board. Obviously the better and newer the phone the more it will be worth. It needs to be unlocked.
We have a couple of tatty old unlocked Nokias which we keep our Bulgarian sim cards in, but they are worthless in terms of snowboard value, it is the new phones they want in Bulgaria.
