Mobiles in Boro (using them not selling them!)

Just read on this site in the advice section that Vodafone and T Mobile users can use their mobiles in Boro.

I'm on o2 and need to make sure I'm in contact, surely if Vodafone users can be reached so can o2? Or am I missing something?

Has anyone been out and used an o2 phone OK?

Yes you can - I did last year. But, the best thing to do is to go to the shop in the Samokov and buy a local SIM card - they cost about 15 lev, including top up and further top ups are available.

Be very wary of the roaming charges - I left my phone in the safety deposit box and even though I wasn't using it, when people rang me, as soon as it kicked in for a call, I was charged £1.40 per call whether they left a message, hung up or whatever. You are much better off using a local sim ...

You are much better off using a local sim card and only using your phone if 100% essential.

Yep, I took my O2 mobile out to Boro and all was well. I would advise that you turn off your voice mail whilst out there as it costs about 5 pound a min to call it, cant remember the exact deactivation number but its something like 1460 or such. O2 can advise you correctly. Hope that helps.

Great advice thank you.

I have been stung by roaming charges before so know how those can hurt too!

We bought the local SIM card, it cost 20 Lev and had 15Lev credit on it. It lasted the whole week, having sent loads of txts to each other (both on local SIMS) and back home. No roaming charges or anything. Have a great time.

Just came back from Boro, took my Orange contract phone, only found out when I got back it was £1.30 a minute per call and 30p per text, looks like I am bankrupt when my bill arrives Sad
