I found the banks in the town square to have the best rate. There is an exchage office at the bottom gondola who gave me a good rate and was also happy to take marked pound note where the hotel would not.
Best use the banks in the town square around the corner from the church bell tower.
The POSTBANK gives the best rate for sterling cash (make sure notes are not ripped or written on) it does not take travellers cheques which give a poorer exchange rate anyway
Go to the main town square (with fountain and wooden statues) stand with your back to the fountain and take the road on the left it's about 10 meters up on the left (you will see a horrible concrete building on your left in the town square)
thanks for all your posts; they are excellent! There are cash machines though arent there? Wouldnt that be the best way to go? Or would bringing cash be better? Is there a maximum limit on how much you can take out per day?
