Mountain Insurance - Borovets

Hi
I have eventually tracked down information that says Mountain Insurance is available at the Gondola Office in Bansko - I'm assuming (maybe wrongly?) that it is similar to the Carre Neige insurance that is available in the French ski areas. Does anyone know if there is a similar scheme in Borovets? If so where are details published and where can it be purchased?
Wouldn't be without it as it saved me 320 euros in December in Tignes!!

Mike,

I may have grassped the wrong idea here...but is it insurance for winter sports that you are after? Or is Mountain Insurance something else?

I believe it's insurance against a certain number of slopes (%) being closed due to lack of snow/bad conditions.

re: Mountain Insurance - Borovets

Hi Rob
Just looking for insurance to cover recovery off the mountain while skiing - the Carre Neige in France costs about 2 euros a day and the ski patrol just get the payment directly from the insurers - it is usually sold with the ski pass.

Thanks

Mike

Mike,

Ahh I see, If you have Winter Sports insurance (which I was told that it is now the law to travel with some sort of personal injury insurance?) surely that would cover 'recovery costs'?

We have the injury insurance and international medical cover, both of which cover medical treatment, repatriation etc but, as many people have found, a lot of winter sports insurance packages do not actually cover the cost of transport down the mountain.

Its not the law that you have to travel with it and too many people don't take it.

There is European Legislation that says that holiday providers/travel agents must prove that they have asked the customer for details of their travel insurance, if not taking their own, which is why in a travel agent for instance, you would normally be asked to sign a disclaimer if you don't take their (normally quite expensive) insurance.

Tour operators booking conditions normally make it a condition of ...

re: Mountain Insurance - Borovets

Just spoken to the nice people at SkiHolidayExtras.com (who we have booked the ski hire and ski passes with) and they confirm that the pre-paid passes they supply DO NOT include the montain insurance. They said that it has to be arranged with the ski pass office in resort and of course it's available. Very strange that there doesn't seem to be any mention of this anywhere that I've managed to find so far!

re: Mountain Insurance - Borovets

When you buy a lift pass in Borovets from Borosport, it is now supposed to include ‘free of charge transportation of the injured person to the nearest medical centre with special rescue equipment and ambulance transportation to the nearest hospital’.

I assume that this is something new this year, as I had to pay €50 for my wife to be brought down when she broke her pelvis 3 years ago!
