My Borovets experience

Just back from a week in Borovets.
I feel very unlucky as I had very little snow to learn on last year and then again this year.
I was able to ski to mid station but not the rest of my group who missed out. Most of the holiday was spent waiting in lines for the lifts and the Gondola. This was caused by poor snow on the Rila Nursery slopes forcing everyone to the top.

The ski school I used advertised new and updated equipment. It was far from that! Orginisation was poor and each day my instructor would change plans and leave part of the group hanging around waiting and missing out on instruction.
Night life was great for adults but the bars and eateries were far too smoke filled to take the little kids.
Food not great but still quite cheap.
People we met were great and most of the locals are nice.

I love the cheapness but if I had the money I'd ski somewhere more uptodate. Till I'm rich I will still go to Bulgaria but would like to try a different resort.
My kids are insisting on having the same instructors again though. They were great....A big thank you to Dafin and Rumen from Hunters.
Also the Royal Plaza Apartments are fantastic and central.
Overall an okay and very cheap holiday. I spent very little so have been able to buy my own boots, skies, bindings , poles and bag from Snow and Rock for only £279 . I'm very pleased.
Next stop is Xcape for a birthday weekend to try em out!

Hi Caroline and Bob, Lou and fella!
It was nice to meet you. Sorry I missed you Fri afternoon but too much fog at bottom to try Blades!!
Enjoy the Skiathong.xxxx

Hi Victoria...

How did you find the Royal Plaza apartments? I have booked for 2009, but I was wondering whether because of the location right in the centre they are noisy? I think the apartment I have booked overlooks the Eagle Rocks bar, anyway it is virtually opposite Mamacitas.

re: My Borovets experience

the Eagle Rocks Bar was one of the quitest bars in Brovets, and one of the biggest mind.

re: My Borovets experience

I spent £150 on food and drink and a few pressies and a couple of taxis. Also a few essentials for the apartment.
(We were self catering)
My daughter spent under £100 and my son bought clothes and rubbish and dvd's and drank and ate like a king totalling £250! and my fella spent £180 and ate and dranks lots.
It totals alot but I bugeted £300 each so I'm happy!

Great location and very clean and modern. Security guarded all hours too!
Worst food was 2nd to top shack on right slope of rila and Francos.
Best food was Mama mia and white magic and mamacitas.
Samokov centre try Cinema for great fresh pizza and modern dining.
Didn't eat at hunters but food looked really good.

Hope this answers a few questions.

re: My Borovets experience

Venture out of the apartment and onto the slopes and the views are great. Who wants to stay in and look at views all day whilst on a skiing trip? The Plaza is central and clean and a perfect home from home and the bed i had was lovely!!

Mikey.... Stay home and wallow you miserable old fart.
