My thoughts on Bansko

Got back from Bansko yesterday night.

Was a nice place, had fun on the slopes, it was my first time boarding, managed to get up to the top of the mountain by the end of the week, which had great views and was nice and powdery!

It was a bit icy at the start of the week, then snowed about wednesday which helped. Had one incident when went to get the Gondala at 16:50 (they close at 17:00) and they wouldnt let us on, so we had to walk down and sled on our boards, back down the mountain ...

It was a bit icy at the start of the week, then snowed about wednesday which helped. Had one incident when went to get the Gondala at 16:50 (they close at 17:00) and they wouldnt let us on, so we had to walk down and sled on our boards, back down the mountain which took over an hour, and i was exhausted. So just make sure you arrive at the gondula in plenty of time.

The queues wernt to bad for the gondula, only on the first day when everyone picks up their stuff. Some days got on straight away.

Stayed at Hotel Bulgaria Bansko, on the road next to Lions bar, opposite a karoke bar. The hotel was clean and had a nice swimming pool, the food was ok, a lot of fried stuff. With the exception of a few, the staff (especially the waiting staff) wernt that pleasent, didnt smile when waiting tables or when you came down for dinner. So i wouldnt recommend it just because they seemed a bit rude to us.

Would reccomend eating at El Toritos (or Toridos) very cheap, do massive pork or chicken shishlick (skewers) for 10 lev and with vegetables and she sets fire to them at the table, wine only 10 lev too, and there is lots of other things, Staff friendly and chatty - appreciated a bit in the way of bulgarian phrases we also got free shots with the bill, Its signposted on lamposts from near the lions pub, so worth visiting.

Also ate at Vihren restuarant (was Ok, not that great for prices, promised us free drinks then added them onto the bill). The Happy Village where the thomson/crystal welcome meeting is also did nice food, if your looking for somewhere near the slopes.

Overall I would recommend Bankso, had a good week, and some good food, some of the bulgarians were friendly enough, some wernt - think it just mainly the hotel staff who wernt very welcoming, so I wont be staying in hotel bulgaria bansko again.

re: My thoughts on Bansko

Glad that, overall, you had a good holiday Rach.

Hmmm - reports generally still seem to state that some of BG staff a tad non-friendly - but there are many that are. Just take it with a 'pich of salt' smile, attempt a bit of BG lingo and hope for the best!

Glad you enjoyed Bansko - hope you will return. 3 weeks now and counting down for me Razz Razz Razz
