Balkan will keep changing the flight because they are a tour op with there own airlone as its a charter flight. They WILL change airports because that they could not fill up there plane in Gatwick. Meaning they want to fill up the other planes first which are the nearest to full.
All they need to do is give you i think 24 hour notice.
Scheduled flights will take of even if they are empty eg BA and Virgin atlantic.
But yeah the captain shhould of said what was happening in the 1st ...

The same thing happened to me n Kaminitsa Stu two years ago with Balkan from Manchester to Sofia, the plane tried to land twice in very high winds before we were diverted to Plovdiv. They were burning crops in the nearby areas too, so all we could see on the ground was patches of flames (Stu wasn't impressed when I told him that was the remains of the 5 o'clock flight)
We had about 2 or 3 hours to wait in Plovdiv ... not sure of the exact times as we bought a very cheap bottle of vodka ...

your right dan we flew with virgin to Vegas and the plane was only half full it was great we had 4 seats between two of us! I wish virgin flew to Plodiv!
flown balkans three years arrived back on sat flew with thompson and what a difference, you feel safe , even coaches used for transfers so much better so balkans no more for us either
Sounds horrific Twinkle - but don't blame Balkan. The pilot would have been instructed by Air Traffic Control that it was safe to land and he has to obey that. As the airport was not closed he would have no reason to believe that it was fogbound. After 2 attempts he would have told the tower that he was not happy with the approach conditions and requested to be diverted.
How would the passengers have felt if he said 'I'm trying to land this baby - but it's dammed foggy out there' ...

Really looking forward to flying with Balkan this year!!!! Sounds like everything is great!!! Bad thing is I go Manc - Humberside - Plovdiv or Maybe Sofia pending weather! it could be the longest flight in the history of England to Bulgaria! Last time I flew my food table broke like on final destination, was so funny! but is a worry, I had to eat on my lap! so as long as mine works this year be an improvement!!!!!
If you think the aircraft are poor now you should have flown with Balkan Air's predecessor back in the mid-eighties. Their aircraft were Soviet cast-offs. The noise and the smell were incredible. The vibration was so bad it was easy to believe that we were doing airspeed but on the roads.
And I have very, very painfull memories of the lack of padding in the seat that meant you could feel the metal framework.
I'm actually looking foreward to flying Balkan next week.
