Restaurant looked very nice, we ate there a few times, food was good most the time but breakfast was horrible, definitely give it a miss. The service wasn’t great, i.e. mains where coming and people where still eating there starter lol.
I would recommend to probly walk into town and try a different place each night as there is such a massive variety.
The bar there is very expensive, not so bad if you drink their larger. Pool room is very nice, down stairs there is a very nice spa room, sauna, steam room etc but you have to pay to use about 10 levs so its not cheap.
Overall generally a nice experience wasn’t amazing but definitely didn’t ruin the holiday as its all about the SNOW!, no major gripes except the fact we was on the top floor and the lift wasn’t working!
I've just come back from Narcis in Bansko - must have been the same week that you were there. Agree largely with the post above, but have to say our experience was worse.
The place is in the middle of a building site without even a made road. We arrived at 4.30 am and had to lug our stuff up a dirt track. Hi
I've just come back from Narcis in Bansko - must have been the same week that you were there. Agree largely with the post above, but have to say our experience was worse.
The place is in the middle of a building site without even a made road. We arrived at 4.30 am and had to lug our stuff up a dirt track. The Bulgarian alphabet is used on the hotel sign, so it doesn't even read a NARCIS, but HAPKUA or something similar and so we were unsure even that we were at the right place.
Same problem about the beds - one of our party was on a camp bed which collapsed each time he sat on it. They were hugely reluctant to do anything about it, since it wasn't "broken" and was apparently meant to be foldable. Eventually they did agree to move us to a bigger apartment, but not without a lot of huffing and puffing and screwed up faces.
On the first day I slipped badly getting out of the hot tub and still have the massive bruise on my shin to show for it. This was due to the incredibly slippery floor tiles around the swimming and spa areas and main stairwell, which seem to be mopped at the busiest times. Everyone slipped. A major hazard.
There was no courtesy bus to the gondolas, which was a big pain for a party with our own skis and boots. Especially since the roads and pavements are in such a state, with open manholes and rubble and potholes all around.
The towels were not changed all week.
The television didn't work.
One of our party cut his foot on a razor sharp metal edging on the floor of the second apartment.
There was a large low window on the third floor which opened right out with no barriers and which could be a major danger.
Generally all kinds of hazards and snagging on the apartments - hopefully someone will do some health and safety audits there soon, otherwise people are going to get seriously hurt.
The swimming pool turned green on the second day and was shut down for the rest of the week.
When we tried to check out and pay for our spa treatments, we were told Narcis didn't have a credit card terminal and we would have to pay by cash. A bit of a problem since we were low on cash and the ATMs in Bansko did not seem to dispense. We were treated rudely and told we should have asked about this before running up any tab on our room.
In terms of the ski facilities, it was just about ok for beginners once there was finally some snow, but a very limited number of runs for intermediates, made more limited by the fact that the ski lifts were only opened on what seemed to be an ad hoc basis. This often trapped beginners on ambitious red or black runs. The best runs at the top of the mountain were closed for 5 consecutive days due to high winds and then inexplicably opened on our last day, which happened to be in the midst of a blustery snow storm. One morning even the main gondola was shut without notice, after a 50 minute wait in ski boots on the stairs. So the entire ski area was inaccessible. No one knew what was going on, not even the ski school people.
The place has potential, but it's going to take a while and more attention needs to be paid to the basics - there's simply no excuse for dangerous facilities and poor customer service.
