A new winter complex will be officially opened in the Southern Bulgarian town of Samokov on January 12th 2008.
The complex, called Boricho, has been functioning since January 4th and all seems well.
Boricho has a 2 man opened chair-lift and a ski-run of just one km, so at the moment skiing is very limited. The ski-run was made on a former farm track to the ridge and is no more than an easy blue.

Two other ski tracks, a teahouse and a panorama-restaurant are to be built in the next phase of the project and these should be completed by 2009.
The construction began in the summer of 2006. The lift was ready for the winter season 2006/2007, but the lack of snow kept the complex from opening.
An artificial snow system will also be installed for the next winter season. My thought are that this could lead to a whole new destination in years to come but we'll just have to wait and see.
snowy norman you have made a piont there we all keep moaning about the prices and how they have risen, but what about the locals they are on low pay and I bet they use to enjoy the resorts but due to tourism they have been priced out, they might move to this new resort but how long before it becomes the next new one and the same thing happens
this lift is currently very expensive, and its a bitch to get to, i have to get my clothes on walk about 80-100m and im there, oh and its free local council problems!
