New Year in Borovets

Have just booked to go to Borovets (Samokov) over New Year (departing UK on 29th). Does anyone know whether there will be any New Year festivities at the hotel? Also, not sure about what currency to take. Finally, how long is trip from Plovdiv airport to resort (and is the journey treacherous!? - not keen on heights ... I know, why am I going skiing???)

Thanks ...

There will be a New Year Gala Dinner at the hotel, its included in the price by almost all the big ski companies.

Yes, don't bother to change money here, you get a better rate over there. Take sterling or euros. Though having a few levs on arrival is possibly useful at the airport or the loo-stop. I bought some off a friend when she got back from Sunny Beach.

We are flying on 29th as well, Bristol to Plovdiv, due to land 18.40, so we won't get to Borovets before 10.30pm. Is the ...

Don't know, but it will be dark so you won't be able to see any scary drops! (I don't like heights either, the chairlifts are the worst thing for me. Lots of deep breathing...)

re: New Year in Borovets

Little advice - use cash machines for money- best rates. if you use the bank make sure they give you the right exchange rate. Most of the banks in the resort will give you less. Also make sure the cash machine is one of the popular banks .POST BANK will give you best rates.

The road winds (it is the mountains after all) but there are no precipitous ledges etc. Potholes and idiot drivers will give you all the excitement you need.
