graham the new lift goes from Stoikite to the tv tower, it is finished and was tested for the first time a few weeks ago. the road to the lift station was being worked on last i heard. The runs however are not as far along and they may or may not be open this year. there are 2 (or should i say 2 are planned both ending at the base of the new lift, one will be about 7km and a winding tree lined beginners run the other a steeper 4km blue/red. If you remember the altitude difference between the top and stoikite is only 850m you can see the runs are going to be quite shallow in gradient.
Where did you get this info from all the statements i have read have stated that the two runs are both approximately 3.5kms long and the resorts runs will expand with an additional 7 kms in total, i hope you are right and it is a total of 11kms.
I was assured at least one will be ready for xmas. So fingers crossed. I have pictures of the lift on My Facebook site, look me up to see them. There is also a new lift being /or has been installed servicing Chepelare and Mechi Chal.
Recently, they were still working on cutting the runs - the top and bottom had been completed and they were working on the middle section. The plan is to have the two runs and the lift working this winter.
The lift looks good, and when I asked if it will be running this winter the response was 'It has to'
Like you say Arron - fingers crossed and we will see for ourselves at Christmas, or maybe before
ok, i've just checked again with my friend in stoikite, i have a house there too. I have misled you here, sorry down to the bulgarian to english language problem and the fact i am usually drunk when we get together.
The two will total about 7km one is longer than the other though - the idea being there is a fast route for better skiers and a slower route for beginners. They are cutting the routes now.
I had the privilage of walking down the newly cut runs in July and they had done quite a bit then so they can't be far off finishing them. If anyone's thinking of ski-ing down to Stoikite off piste under the lift, there's a big dip half way down and a steep climb back up again.
