New snow cannons in Borovets??

Hi guys,

We were over Borovets yesterday riding on the Bike Park(awesome by the way). One of the new freeride runs crosses the piste down from Martinovi Baraki chair. They are digging a trench along the side of the tree's down from the chair and looks like it may be snow cannons going in there!!! Well thats what we have been told it is for so more good news for Borovets Very Happy

New snow cannons in Borovets??

Sorry for those who have got their hopes up reading this post but sorry to say the above is not actually new cannons... The digging / trenchwork (which is being done over the summer by volunteer ski instructors such as Bobby) is simply fixing of the existing cannons on the red and making the drainage system better / more effective.

There is discussion of cannons on the Sitnyakovo Express for next season - they did say this last season but as of now, it is still in discussion and NOT ...

Why is Borosport relying on volunteers? Surely the company is profitable and well off enough to pay workers during the summer?

re: New snow cannons in Borovets??

Hi BGPete,

They do have a number of their instructors working for them in the summer as paid for workers. Last year instructors licences / passes were increased by nearly 50% in price so if independent / instructors from other ski schools (non Boro-sport) give up a couple of weeks to work for free and clear rocks, dig trenches etc they can purchase their licences at a similar rate to the tourist season passes which are considerably cheaper. Those that don't do the weeks will pay at the ...

re: New snow cannons in Borovets??

There are no snow cannons down the area we saw them digging Kas!! But our friend Sandra was working last week also picking rocks etc etc from the piste for 10days to get a lower price pass this year. Has to be good to get volunteers this way. Im sure they did this in Bansko one year not sure if it is still available but we don't seem to hear about it....

re: New snow cannons in Borovets??

Yeh we know Sandra was doing it... Bobby spoke to Georgi Goleminov yesterday - he is now in charge for all Borovets ski runs as of last season when people were sacked. He is on holiday at the moment but did confirm on the phone as per post above that the trench work was for the drainage for the existing cannons as the drainage from the reservoir has to be improved.

He also said that once any decisions were made on new cannons / improvements etc (rather than just heresay / rumours) he ...

He also said that once any decisions were made on new cannons / improvements etc (rather than just heresay / rumours) he would call Bobby and let him know - we will then post on here. At the moment though NOTHING in terms of improvements etc has been confirmed or agreed.

There was a concrete base that looked like it might accommodate a cannon Wink
