New to skiing - coming Borovets this Saturday 22nd
Hi all, just some general questions and if possible suggestions...
We (a couple) are coming to Borovets Jan 22nd. We are complete novices (havent skied for 15 years!! ) and as such have booked a ski package with our tour operator - Inghams. What should we expect from our ski lessons? What level of competence should we expect after a weeks tuition?
Given the current conditions are we likely to get the full affect?
Please can anyone suggest some decent restaurants and bars to visit ...

We are staying in the Rila - anything we should know about this hotel? - good or bad?

Rila's lovely ... if possible try and get a room at the front. Drinks at the bar there can be quite expensive, but loads of cheaper places a stone's throw away.
Give Katy's Steak House and Blue's a go ... wasn't in Boro last season, so read around the forums for more up to date advice.
Lessons ... that's really up to you guys but I'd expect you'd be on blue or red runs by the end of the week, confidence permitting.

Hi Rob,
Also staying at the Rila from the 22nd, first time for us, but daughter and family were there on 2nd Jan and had a great time, sure we will be fine.
The white house is great for lunches this is at the top of the gondola, but if like us you have booked ski lessons with Borosport not sure if they will take us there.
Keep an aya out on the board for a meet up being planned by a number of posters. also see earlier post for some good advise.
We fly from East Mids 22nd at 13-20 ...

Depending on the skill level of your group will dictate how you progress, but agree with Robert I should expect to be on a red by the end of the week, BG is generally different from other euro resorts you get your instructor for the whole day not just half.
I would recommend Snow Hut for drinks and food, its now run by an English Guy so he tends to set a standard that you will be used to in the UK, (not saying that there is anything wrong with BG service but all couhntries have there own ...

Manc tom, you can eat anywhere you want, if your instructor is from Borosport they will try to take you to Borosport restaurants, but there is no reason you can't tell he/she that you will see them back at this spot in and hour or what ever. The reason that the instructor will not come with you is that they tend to get sacked or not be given a group the next week if they are caught going into a non borosport restaurent.

It's not a third world country, all the instructors have mobile phones. Get the number of your wifes instructor if your instructor doesn't already have it and if you are both in Borosports classes you may be in the same place for lunch anyway but if not assuming you are on the same mountain get your instructor to call her one and he can tell you where to go and meet her for lunch. You then just have to meet up with your class afterwards.

Looks like your in for a cracking week Rob. dbut and I always make a point of grabbing newbies if they want to for that little bit extra skiing after lessons. Looks like Manc Tom is up for it as well.
Heads up 4 days.
