re: Next Olympic bid

It's in Russia for 2014 and France 2018 so if they go for 2022 they've got time to sort things out.

re: Next Olympic bid

I agree there are many ski resorts more advanced that the Bg ones but the if the Olimpics can be in Sochi, Russia in 2014 surely there is hope for BG at some stage. Sochi isn't even the size of Borovets on its own at the moment. Of course the Russians are pumping massive amounts of money into it to expand the size and it is a pet project of Putins.

Kiwi1 - can you tell me tonights Euromillions numbers?

France does not have the 2018 Winter Games - they have submitted a bid along with several others. Bids must be submitted by mid-October 2009 and the decision is not made until Summer 2011 !!

re: Next Olympic bid

I was in the Haute Savoir when France hosted the winter olympics in 1992, the cente being Albertville...
If you were to consider the access to the prestige ski areas the likes of Val'd'isere, Les Arc, Three Vallees etc the French goverment still had to invest heavily in basic infrastructure (roads etc) and venues... Millions of Francs were spent in order to host the games, which by the way were a great success, and to be there whilst it was happening was an experience...
I cannot imagine ...

I cannot imagine Bulgaria having the capital to invest in such infrastructure, and attracting private investment even less likely. I think that being able to host an FIS downhill event this season was a great achievment, and hopefully this can be built on in perhaps attracting a mens premier event. Lets walk before we can run eh Very Happy

re: Next Olympic bid

and some of the blogs ive seen werent that complimentary about the course!!!

who knows?? one of the best candidates for the last two games has been S Korea, but they were beaten by an almost non exisitant resort in Russia, its got very little to do with being the most suitable place me thinks!!

re: Next Olympic bid

well one of the main criteria is the potential for the Olympics to stimulate development in the country, in which case Bulgaria could be top of the running. Without the clear sort of financial commitment like the Russians (who remember sent Putin who gave a speech in English for the first time at the selection meeting) I can't see them taking the risk on Bulgaria for some time yet
