Have just booked our own chalet and flights ourselves for next Christmas. We have stopped at the Samokov twice now and when you get your passports back they have that peice of paper in to show at the airport, how do you go about getting this done if you have booked yourselves?? Anyone know?? I was told it doesn't matter but I am sure that it does!! Don't fancy paying a huge fee to get out of the country!! (mind you its always an excuse to stop a bit longer!!

No, but DO NOT lose that bit of paper. Had a problem with a member of our party last year who didn't have it and only just got away without having to pay a £200 fine.Rie

I think the peice of paper is a customs declaration to state you are a tourist and are leaving the same way you came in and didn't smuggle loads of cash in and stuff like that. I think it just vouches for who you are and you have to present it at the airport....or at least that is how I understood it.re: Next Xmas
We drove into Boulgaria and there was a sign saying that within the first 48 hours of your stay you have to go and register with the local foreigners office. This is usually done by the hotel in which one is staying. Having booked independantly you will probably have to do it yourselves. I do not know where the foreigners office is but I would ask at the local police or even at one of the hotels. I am sure they would know.

We just got back from Borovets on Saturday - we were in a group of 15 and the family of 5 we were with incl a 2, 3 and 6 year old hadn't kept the piece of paper in the passport - fortunately the passport control guy didn't say anything - we pushed the kids to the front told them to smile and hope he'd take pity on them ! Very sympathetic response from Balkan Hol Rep she said "you'd better have a lot of money then" and walked off !Miffy

Hi TheoWe have booked to go in Chalet Borovets for the week between Xmas and New Year. It is advertised on this site. It sleeps up to six people and with flights we have saved a lot of dosh! The chalet is right behind the Samokov (we could see them from our balcony this year). Haven't booked any ski packages yet, just trying to sort them now but hoping to go with the Samokov. There are a few more chalets in the group that are advertised on here. Hope this helps.
