Off piste Skiing

I am looking to ski in Bulgaria and want a resort where my beginer friends will be intrested but the 2 advanced skiers want to be able to ski off piste and even heliski. Have to say I am worried about the size of the ski areas but would love to know more.Which resort would be best for a group of 12 ranging from 2 beginers mainly good intermediates and a couple of us with over 100 days skiing.
All advice welcome.

Your wories are wright! the ski area,s are not so big as area,s in france or Switserland. I,m always going to Borovets to visit some family and have some fun on the slopes! and of course the nightlive is greate and cheap in Bulgaria. In Borovets theirs about 25 km offpiste infront off the Mousala! I love it to ski their because their are not many people and you can do what ever you want. A nice think is to bring a visit to the Mousala cabage. Its a very old bar/place where time has stand ...

About the heliski i,ve heard about it but never seen it!
For your beginner friends Borovets is very nice resort and big enough to learn skiing.

take a look at www.befsa.com for some great pics of off piste runs ans couloirs. They use lots of different areas. One is near Bansko and one near Borovets. Maybe they would be able to give better info.K

Nice runs! have seen some guys lost year who took those runs from the mousala

If I can find that sort of powder and the off piste is not too tracked out then I can be happy for a week.
The Befsa website is great. I think I can do some serious reading there. Barry I may be asking you for some off piste advice if we go there. Is there much point in hiring guides (other than for insurance purposes!) or will they be able to help explore further?

For hiring guides for offpiste ask the skiteacher from your friends who are beginner or ask a skiteacher in nightlife or at liftstation! most bulgarian people know the way at the mousala. When the weather is clear its also possible to go by your own. you will see more tracks you can follow or other people! and when you go down you always come back on the road (gren/blue run) to the mousala cabbage. When you follow this road it will bring you at 2 of the 3 draglifts.
