Orphanage

Hi
I have been taking a ski trip to Pamporovo for the past 11 years and for the past 7 years have been associated with Katya Vanchev orphanage. We started off taking bits and pieces out for the children but we found that money was much more useful and over there it went a lot further than it would here. Over the years we have bought washing machines, tumble dryers, lighting, meat, TV's and lots lots more. Last year we raised £3000 and the money put double glazing in along the dorms.

We head over again 2nd February and have raised £2500.We only take some of our pupils to the orphanage but most of them say it is the highlight of their week. Also we are certain that every penny raised is spent on the orphans. We also take over sweets which is a real treat for them.
Anyway can't wait to get skiing again. Hear conditions are good. Pity we have 55 kids with us!!!

One of our pupils (a 14 year old boy) wrote this after visiting the orphanage. I read it out in assembly to the whole school:

It's a heart moving thing to see people my age without anyone in the world apart from children they have found living with them which turns into their family. The children were so gentle and kind. I would offer some of them 2 sweets and because they had got one they would not take another. These orphans had so little but were still so happy. It brought a tear to our eyes as we were leaving as their little hands hugged and grabbed us. It was a once in a lifetime experience wich I will never ever forget. Spare a thought for these little people while you are going a through your relatively easy day and send a little prayer to God for them.

re: Orphanage

What a very touching story.

Good on you, and well done for what you have achieved.

I certainly hope that we can make a big difference at Stoikite Orphanage - and with the support we have received from the posters - i'm sure we will.

re: Orphanage

Hi stressed teacher,

Is this the one in Shiroka Luka? we visited there the year before last to take them clothes, shoes etc. The children were lovely and a few tried speaking English to us. For some reason this orphanage gets a lot of help and as Pete says, hopefully what we are all doing will make a difference to Stoikite orphanage that has had little or no help, apart from Amanda - until Now Very Happy
Let us hope and pray that all the orphanages in bulgaria and other countries will get ...

Let us hope and pray that all the orphanages in bulgaria and other countries will get better soon, no child should have to live in conditions such as they do.
Wishing you and all the children a happy ski trip and a safe journey.

re: Orphanage

Yes the orphanage is in Shiroka Luka. Thankfully the children there are as well looked after as they can be. Still leaves a lot to be desired tho. It amazes me how happy the kids are despite having absolutely nothing.
