Orphey Hotel Bansko

Has anyone stayed at this hotel, what's it like? Is it far from the town? Just booked to go on the 1st March but can't find any reviews of it.

yes, we stayed hear last year. Nice hotel, down in the old part of town, about 20 mins walk to the gondola, although they have a shuttle bus to take you. No kettles in the rooms so take your own if you like your tea. Food not great but buffet style so help yourself. If you are going for a swim take your own towels as they dont supply them and you will have to get your one and only bath towel wet. They do sell robes and slippers on reception but not sure how much. Our room smelt very ...

It is nice being down that end of bansko, you are very near the square and things are alot cheaper than up near the gondola. Anyway, you will like it, it certainly isnt a hovel. Nice reception area and bar also. Enjoy

Almost stayed there in 2006, Balkan change hotels on me 2 days before I departed, ended up in a hotel around the corner,The Perun, popped into Orphey for a look around,' come and have a look where you could have stayed!', it seemed nice enough in there.

We all stayed there last year... although its a 20 min walk to the gondola the shuttle busses were excelent and ran very frequently. On the odd occassion i was up late (10 ish) the driver ran me up to the gondola in the mini bus on my own - so there's no waiting around for certain departure times or for the bus to fill up. Be careful with the ski room though - we had a pair of (very nice) ski boots go missing.

Our rooms were nice enough - radio that played into the bathroom was nice for a relax after a day on the slopes. As stated above, the food isnt spectacular, but its free so cheaper than eating out. We found all the staff very friendly.

Hope this helps!

re: Orphey Hotel Bansko

Hi,

I have an apartment next to the Orphey, if you stayed in the Stazhite then you may find the Orphey a bit far out unless you like it close to the old town.

Me and my mate walked up and down to and from the Gondolas last year. It was great for warming up but my mate would disagree!

Stayed at the Orphey in 2006 and has a very pleasant stay. Our room (a corner room) was absolutely huge!! - more of a suite and we had a balcony with great views facing up to the mountains. Food is good enough - you fill up with breakfast and you get enough dinner down you to leave room for a few pints later. Location is a little bit out of the way - but if you turn left as you leave the lobby the side street takes you up towards the town square and then up to the gondola. Many times we ...

Many times we walked back from the lifts - was a pleasant meander through the old town.
Only prob all holiday was the high winds which closed the lifts for 2 days (ironic that there was loads of snow - d'oh!!).

Enjoy!
