Our 1st experience in Borovets

Hi all, having just returned from our first trip to Borovets i thought i'd do this wee post before signing off for now.

First of all i'd again like to thank Kas & Bobby. On the sunny slopes last week i proposed to my girlfriend (now fiancee.) Hi all, having just returned from our first trip to Borovets i thought i'd do this wee post before signing off for now.

First of all i'd again like to thank Kas & Bobby. On the sunny slopes last week i proposed to my girlfriend (now fiancee.) Prior to leaving i got in touch with Kas & Bobby and they helped book a lovely restaurant for our engagement in Samokov aswell as booking a driver. We stayed in contact whilst there and were invited to New Years dinner with them and had a great time! Kas i'll send you a wedding photo when it happens! Smile I believe their Restaurant 'White House' has just opened up the Gondola so go and visit them! Very nice couple. Also if you require ski lessons Bobbys group looked like a lot of fun!

Overall, apart from the engagement, the lack of snow ruined our holiday in all honesty. I am a beginner and my fiancée is quite advanced. The only runs that were open were either advanced ones or very easy ones down the bottom so we were stuck with nothing in the middle! The advanced ones we found quite icy which ruined things unfortunately for us. We were gutted as there look like some really interesting runs from the top down!

We found the Bulgarian people to be very hit or miss. They were either very friendly or actually pretty rude. We stopped at the Yastrebets hotel (on the yastrebets run) for lunch one day (food was brilliant) however we encountered the most unfriendly/unhelpful staff I’ve possible ever come across! We had to move table 3 times to get served and when we asked for service we were told “no”. I also went into the borosport office to ask about a lesson. I was greeted with a grunt and basically nobody showing one bit of interest. I actually felt quite uncomfortable even though I was basically trying to throw money at these people.

That aside everyone that worked within the bars in the centre were extremely friendly and had a laugh with you. Although it does get quite annoying them trying to get you in their pubs everytime you walk past! However it’s the same in most places these days I guess.

To sum up, would I go back to Borovets…. Yes, however it would have to be a late deal with a lot of snow already there! Plus i need to sample more of the amazing local beer!
