Hi,

Spent all day yesterday with the film crew from the Beeb taking part in a series they are filming about truancy. We are taking the kids out of school (heavan forbid!!)

They arrived at 10am then it was off the Southampton Alpine Centre for a private lesson for Andrew and the kids, Aaron 11 and Gemma 4 (I can already ski ..sort of).

They all did great except for when Aaron (Age 11) completely lost control and shouting 'out the way' to everyone standing at the bottom of the nursery slope seemed more important than remembering to snow plough and therefore stop! The result is a nice dry bright red carpet type burn across his forhead and bridge of his nose and a very bruised ego.

Then we went for some well earned lunch and then back to ours to film us packing, putting cases into the car and driving off for our hols!

All in all a really enjoyable experience and insight into what is involved in the making of a TV programme. It is apparently to be shown some time in the summer as a six part series and they may let us take a camcorder on hols with us to continue filming. So look out for us!

What brilliant fun! And a great experience for the kids too. We're off on 7th for 2 weeks with 14 new recruits coming for the second week. I'll certainly watch out for the programme. We took the kids out of school last March to go and it was so worth it - at 10 and 7, there's not an awful lot they're going to miss over 1 week and the experience they gain on the holiday far outweighs anything they learn at school at that age. Well done for bucking the system and doing what you want with your kids - not being told what to do!!

Sounds like you had a great time, we took ours out of school - who were fine about it.

I can sympathise with the carpet burns, a moon or two ago I was in the Army and on a course in Aldershot which has a dry ski slope. Usual squaddie thing, I had a few beers after which I decided it would be quite funny to go down the dry ski slope on a beer tray, in the dark. To be fair it was quite funny and I am laughing about it as I type, trouble was some way down the tray and I hit a bump, at this point we became airborne and separated - during the course of the next few yards I managed to ruin virtually every item of clothing I was wearing and burn my knees, backside, elbows and head as these various extremes of my body attempted to slow me down on the nylon brushing. Painful.

Funny as it was I do not recommend anyone try this at home (or on a dry ski slope).
