OK- Returned yesterday 20 Mar 2004 after 1 week at the ELA.
Hotel - clean, dry, comfy bed, food OK, bar good. No problems and I can, and do, recommend it (car park side a bit noisy at night)
Places to eat - Mamacita - excellent Mexican and cheap, Katy's steak bar - really good also cheap.(both places had a lovely meal including drink for less than 8 gbp(Great British Pounds - no pound sign on my laptop!)

Slopes - I'm a boarder so I only looked briefly at the Rila side slopes(very icey and going brown by the time I got there). For boarding go to the Gondala top station, turn left at the top of the path and come down the Yestrebits run (1)to the mid station (small path leads right off the piste to the Gondola station just after the sledging sign)and back up again. If you need some less steep slopes to get your legs working, go to the top of the Gondola, turn right at the top of the hill, down the slope to the restaurants and do the beginners slope - its' a slow button lift. The other slopes up at the gondola, which are further past the beginners slope, are serviced by button lifts that will rip your leg off if you're a boarder!
Equipment Servicing
I brought my own board and had it serviced (edges and wax) for 30 lev at the Gondola bottom station- excellent work and great value.
Instructors. I joined with a group after three days as I needed to get some help - The guy was great and let me join in for a nominal amount - really helped a lot. Not all instructors were so good which is why I asked his group what he was like.
Excursions
Skidoo - 20gbp - noisy & smelly - 6 out of 10
Bulgarian Folk Night(Baba Loussa via Crystal 10 pounds I think) - good food, good booze, good laugh - 10 out of 10
Bulgarian Wine tasting night (at Mamacita's this time)10 pounds roughly - good food, ok wine(free bottle helps) good laugh as long as you have a decent group on your table which I did - 8 out of 10
Holiday company was Crystal - Rupert and Jon(Kiwi) were just great and did all that was required in a friendly and efficient manner.
Over all - top notch holiday based on basic accomodation and low cost bars with enough slopes to keep me interested. Would I go back? - yes, it is hard to think of a better value for money holiday. I've detailed my costs below as a guide for others(I met one chap who paid nearly double what I paid and he was only B&B- but then he travelled with Airtours!
Crystal Holidays booked 5 weeks before departure.
