hi just got back pamp is great. they got a new ski centre 1. depends which one you go to (they tell you on bus and when you get to hotel they give you a leaflet with info) first day not so early 10 ish start. you get your gear and you meet the instructors, they take you up. they put you in groups depending if you've skied before. i went in beginners cos never done it i learned the basics. if you can snow plough and get down green and blue then join the intermediate. when your with your group the tutor will asses what you can do (they do tests). depends on what you feel comfortable with. i was bored at begining of week learning on nursery slopes. intermediate- they take you up!!

First morning there can be a bit of a queue. You meet up with your instructor outside the ski store. You indicate what skiing experience you have. They take total novices to the nursery slopes which are about 200mtrs away (that was me and my family last year). I'm told for those with "some" experience, you are quickly assessed by skiing down a nearby slope and then depending on your ability, you are allocated to an appropriate group.

If you want to stay with friends or family, you may have to join a group slightly below your ability which could be a waste of time to some extent. Your shout though.
