Hi Val...
Finally got confirmation direct from tour operator (Balkan). I decided to take them up on their offer of the upgrade for the 12th March, subsequently informed that it actually was not available but i could have the 19th, was desperate so i had to go for it, i do at least go from Bristol now. Had to change insurance, work, travel arrangements etc, what a pain !!!
It seems the problem is firstly the actual demand for Bansko, totally took operators by surprise (becoming popular ??) which resulted in over booking of charter flights and accomadation, the booking systems inability to cope with the demand and returning confirmations when in fact there was not, no additional charters could be laid on because of the limits placed on the routes for this year
and finally and most importantly the fact that i was travelling alone. This single reason seemed to exclude me from most of the existing accomadation for the dates i actually wanted to travel. It seems they want full occupency of rooms and know that they will get it as the demand is there, there was according to the agent
who arranged this even an arguement over what i was eventually offered as it is a twin room. Unfortunately under their terms and conditions there is nothing i can do
and i do still want to go skiing so i will just have to look forward to the 19th...
It is a shame as i was looking forward to meeting you and yours over a few drinks
and possibly having a skid around the mountain with you. Next year won`t be a problem as my apartment should be completed, no trouble for single occupency.
Will keep in touch anyway and will look forward to your return and report..
Hoping the snow will still be there on the 19th March...
I will definately be having a few anyway

As you will note it seems i have fallen foul as some others have re. overbooking and other various cock-ups, again sorry i am not going to get to meet up, i am sure it would have been a blast, we`ll try again next year

I think you might be right regarding Balkan, i do feel a little disapointed but must admit that ultimately they did come up with an acceptable offer in the way of recompence (up-graded hotel and better airport), the saving in time and money
was a major consideration in accepting it. I have been in touch with a ski buddy
in Sofia who will be meeting me who informed me of the glorious conditions in
March last year, i am hopeful for this year. You have a great time, will expect some piccies (always nice to see who you are talking to..) and an unbiased report.
Don`t you go using up all the snow and drinking all the beer
