Hi,
we have just booked for a week at The Hotel Merryan/Merian (depends where you see it advertised), from 2-12-11, and was wondering if anyone can give handy hints on the locality, where to drink, where best apres, goods and bads etc.
First time skiing for boyfriend (excluding one school trip) and I am a very un-stylish intermediate adrenalin junkie so a cheap compromise.
Is the ski school good? we were thinking of doing private ski school? Good idea/bad idea?
Any feedback ...

Hi Emma - and welcome to the board. We hope to hear lots from you over the next few months as your time to depart draws near, and also after you return to give us all a run down on your thoughts and experiences.

Apres Ski is wide and varied. Straight after skiing at the slopes you can try either the Markony or the White Dog. Both have a good atmosphere and are right next to the Malina Ski Depots.
Later on and back in the resort all of the following will offer a vaired range of Apres Ski.
The White Hart - live music and great beer.
Daks Bar - Lots of locals and a vibrant night club.
The Apres Ski Bar - Live music
DJ's in the Perelik(formerly known as BJ's) Disco till 4am
Lots of other smaller places, but these are the main ones.
Only change money at your hotel reception and NEVER with strangers, no matter what rate they offer as it will be worthless money you get in return.
Over the coming weeks there will be loads of people on here only too willing to help you, so keep the questions coming and we'll do our best to help you.

Oh and just one other thing - you are not allowed to say 'Can't Wait'
Ok, wooooooooooooooooo hooooooooooooooooo can't wait.
So snow conditions in Feb are?
I have obviously looked at snow history etc and looks ok, hence booking, however if it is sunny do you get a thaw and freeze situation?
Hi Emma, I echo everything Pete said. Your hotel is in a great location - very central so ideal for the bars, ice skating etc. You have a little shop just along the road too called the Alaska where you can buy nibbles etc and cash points can be found in the main hotels - I think your nearest will be in the Mourgavetz lobby.
The resort streets are normally snow covered unlike some ski resorts so you will need decent footwear for walking round the town.
Any questions, just shout and we'll ...
