Sat at the airport now I thought I would write a quick review of our week in Pamporovo. Sat at the airport now I thought I would write a quick review of our week in Pamporovo. We arrived last Tuesday to a very Summery feeling Plovdiv and the rise in altitude did nothing to temper the heat. Sitting outside at Studenets it was t shirt weather and al fresco dining. In fairness after the permanent 6 degrees and rain of the previous 3 months in England it was nice to feel the warmth on one's face but it was bit too warm for Feb! The first 4 days skiing maintained the temperatures and the snow was really suffering. Patches were appearing on the runs, even at the top of the mountain, and it was a slushfest and puddles past 11am. Before that the runs that were/are open were OK if a little icy. To be honest I think if the temps had remained at that level for much longer they may have had to do something drastic as the snow was running very thin all over and there was no hope of putting the cannons on to top up. The change did come on Sunday with light snow from around 1500m and a big drop in temps. This carried on until I left this morning and the resort looked a lot better for it. Considering the weather I think the mountain had done a fair job of maintaining the pistes but it's slightly annoying when you read on the official Pamp website that pretty much all the runs are open when that is blatantly not the case. I'd say it's about 50% open, nothing like 80/90%. If they get a big dump of snow I may go back again in March but I fear even if they did they might not open it all up. Here's hoping!
