Pamps Report

Got back on Sunday from Pamps, had a great time.

RESORT - Great place, especially for beginners/intermeadiates but advanced skiers would be bored after 2 days but thats good for us less able skiers as there are'nt as many speed freaks on the slopes, has some great green and blue runs.

Ski School - We were at Ski centre 2, a bit manic on your first morning but was eventually on the slopes for 11am.

As we had skied before we had a warm up session and then a test before being put in groups of about 6-8 depending on ability. Our instuctor was Mario and he was brilliant, funny, patiant but most of all a very good tutor who pushed you but never made you feel out of your depth, we learned that he is one of the most respected instuctors there, even offered to take us to his home village for a meal and drinks in Chepelere. Can't thank him enough for his time.

Hotel - We were in the Murgavets, nice hotel in great location but food was poor except on last night when they did'nt put a buffet on but served a four course meal which was excellent. We eat out most nights as it was so cheap. Family room was excellent and very comfortable beds and pillows which is welcome when your knackered.

Food - Already mentioned our hotel but had mixed reports from other hotels, luck of the draw I suppose.
Many good restaraunts and bars, Bulgarian Village, White House, Chevmento, Italian, BJs, Daks Irish bar and White Horse, average cost for two adults and a teenager for very good meal and drinks was about £20-£25. On the slopes most instuctors take you to different places each day and it was rumoured they were on commission but still good value. The best bar on the slopes for me was The Rossignal bar at the middle of the green run just before the Wall, Evo, the lad who owns it was a great laugh and as he'd lived in Glasgow for a while had a strange accent and an affection for you Jocks who ski, but best of all his food was excellent and his beer was the cheapest on the slopes. less than a quid a pint, told him I'd give him a mention as i used to meet my wife and daughter there each day for lunch as we were in different classes and he really looked after them till I got there. Thanks Evo!!

Balken Holidays - All in all not a bad company but could be more organised, Silvia our rep was a bit scatty at times but was pretty busy i suppose, she was'nt happy when we asked for our money back when we had to cancel the skidooing because their coach had got stuck coming back from shopping trip as the driver did'nt put his chains on and my wife was two hours late back, my wife soon pursueded her otherwise though (not one to be messed with my missis).

Value for Money - Excellent, how can you go wrong at these prices with great ski conditions, i know some people post some negative reports about Bulgaria and i could nit pick if I wanted to butni had too good a time to be bothered complaining, remember this place is'nt long out of communism but they are really trying and are very freindly people on whole. Those who complain must have been very unlucky or need to lighten up.

Will definatley go back to Bulgaria skiing next year and hope my report will pursued others to give this place a chance. You can always pat three times the price for France though and get ripped off on the slopes.

Only 364 more sleeps!!!!

Very Happy Razz Booze Booze Booze

re: Pamps Report

Glad you enjoyed it John. Good report, I agree with your comments about the food at the Murgavets pretty average really and it is so much better to get out as you did and try some proper food. And at those prices who can blame you. Very Happy

Hya
Also arrived home on Sunday.
Had a fabulous holiday, a really beautiful ski resort.
Agree with you about the food, We stayed at the Hotel Pampovoro 5*. The facilities and bars in the hotel were great but the restaurant and the food was awful, and the waiters did'nt bother to change table covers or reset tables between guests, so we just ate out most nights and had some lovely meals. Anyone going over again definately go to the Whitehouse Restaurant had great fun just trying to decide ...

re: Pamps Report

We stayed at the Murgavets the week before (5th-12th) and were very happy with it. Stayed in Snezhanka last year, felt Murgavets definately better.
This was our 5th time in Bulgaria and we love the country as a whole, we're learning bulgarian and always have a fantastic time when we visit! Going out to stay in our own house in June...can't wait!

re: Pamps Report

stayed at the murgavets this year cos we liked the look of it last yea, when we stayed at the Snezhanka. in fact I preferred the snezhanka to the Mourgavets really, seemed less busy and more cosy. Also found the Mourgavets staff a bit miserable. And we're old hands at Bulgaria, even speak some Bulgarian! Might give the Prespa a go next - staff seem very friendly!

As far as the food goes, I usually just load the plate! Maybe its being raised on dale steaks and Findus Crispy Pancakes! ...

As far as the food goes, I usually just load the plate! Maybe its being raised on dale steaks and Findus Crispy Pancakes! Never thought it so bad that I had to eat out, but have eaten out occasionally, and it great value. do begrudge paying half board then having to pay extra to eat out!

Be sure to have the 'tickli' dish at the 'ocko holiday' bar by the foot of the Tv tower -its amazing!
