While we were in Pamporovo last week we spent some time watching the kids competing in a slalom comp on the bottom half of the wall.
They had a proper timing device with times displayed on a LED board.
After all mentioning that we would fancy having a go at that(despite the fact that the 10 year old kids would have put me to shame) it struck me that they are missing a trick here. I would have happily have paid a few leva to have a go, and would no doubt have tried to beat my score lots of ...

I would have happily have paid a few leva to have a go, and would no doubt have tried to beat my score lots of times during the week. I reckon that if they set it up as a permanent fixture (perhaps for set times in the day) they would coin it in + provide an excellent additional feature.
Great idea Joff and they do miss out on many money making opportunities.
I can't understand why they don't have a kiosk at the bottom of the Wall selling souvenirs such as t shirts that say 'I Skied The Wall In Pamporovo' and other trinkets potraying Pamporovo's most famous slope.
Few seasons back Bansko had an invention :
They have made one permanent slalom and every weekend people (family individuals etc) tried to time it and their results were published. And clasified against the rest.
A lot of participants there were but since that season (2006 I think) nothing has been repeated.
All BG resorts have to adopt the brilliant idea to have a weekly program from the tourist office listed by day and hour and given to all of the newcomers at the weekends.

That is a massive retainer for the punters but the authorities are not interested In something which is a nice way of saying WELCOME and COME BACK AGAIN.
Until this happens forget about the retaining forces on BG resorts.
The budgets in the BG resorts are not for that.
In fact there is not a body which is employed to do something.
I find this very very sad and strange.
I can not remmember a place in Europe(big or small) which has not got weekly programmewith guests, theaters, shows, randonees, some of which are repeated each week for the tourists.
Not talking about the ski instructors shows .
Nobodys interested.
Just returned from a sweet night show FOC in local tourist Office building with panto comics and happy atmosphear (one I am sure the tourists will remmember long after the hols).
EASY.
Small percentage of the local taxes goes into that full time team with one thing in mind: to promote their resort.
Results are fact.
