Pamps report 14th-21st Feb

Just back from another brilliant week in Pamps. We flew with Thomson - flights and transfers good. We stayed at the Snezhanka, which is centrally located by Dak's. The room was clean and comfortable and the food good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is first stop for the ski buses so no waiting around.

Snow conditions were fantastic while we were there. It snowed every day apart from Tuesday and an extra big dump on Wednesday meant that the snow for the rest of the week was the best in over 5 years according to locals.
All runs were open - including the new Stoikite runs. These were incredible, with lovely long, wide slopes and loads of deep powder. At the beginning of the week, the snow right down by the lift was a bit sketchy, but after Wednesday, there was plenty of snow right to the bottom. The new lift is excellent - it even has 'bubbles' to keep you warm and dry.
We found prices on the mountain to be very similar to last year - lunch was around 20 - 25 lev for two of us at most places. It was very quiet though, considering it was half term - our instructor reckoned there were about half the people there that are normally expected during that week. Apparently there are only 11 instructors working next week - the others have been laid off because numbers are so low.
On Wednesday, Arron and his family invited us over to the Castle for a meal in the restaurant there. Dona and Logan were there too and we all had an absolutely brilliant night. I can thoroughly recommend the food - real Bulgarian cuisine - and we got 20% off the bill, courtesy of Bulgariaski, which was an added bonus. The staff were lovely and the karaoke was a real laugh. Thanks for that Arron and Nicky - we really enjoyed it.

Yesterday, we had a late flight home, so we managed an extra full day's skiing. We extended our equipment hire, which was 25 lev each, and a day's ski pass was 33 lev (apparently it's discounted at the weekend).

We're already looking to rebook for next year, although we're not impressed to see that none of the tour operators seem to be using Plovdiv airport. The Sofia transfer will be a bit of a pain.

re: Pamps report 14th-21st Feb

Hi All,
Just back from Papms too. I agree with the above. We stayed at the Orlovetz and it was lovely, the staff were fine. As usual food not quite GB standards but always something for everyone and we were all happy. We were in the same ski group as Dona and Logan. Met Arron and Nicki and then Lizzie and Barry. It was much quieter than the previous 2 half terms that we have been (great for us, no queues and lots of lovely snow).

We went to Chepalare to ski on our final day (late flight), organised by Crystal - great to see the other slopes (the green was more demanding than the Pamps green, the reeds were harder too (according to the rest of the family). The chair lift was great, we recommend the trip!
Julie (pete, Connie and Luke).

Hi everyone

We are also just back from pamps with Julie and Lizzy. We stayed in the perelik which has improved greatly since last time we stayed there 3 years ago. The rooms and hotel have all been refurbed, the food was better and the only thing which needs more work is some of the staff's attitudes. Hi everyone

We are also just back from pamps with Julie and Lizzy. We stayed in the perelik which has improved greatly since last time we stayed there 3 years ago. The rooms and hotel have all been refurbed, the food was better and the only thing which needs more work is some of the staff's attitudes. We had fantastic snow although it was tough skiing some of the runs Thursday and Friday as the snow was sooo deep but it was fab. We didn't ski Saturday like the others as we had a very late night on Friday sampling the great nightlife pamps has to offer in Spider planet, Analog and the spider bar in the Murgavets with our instructor Jerry and his lovely wife Christine.

We also went to the Castle on Wednesday and highly recommend it as we ate and drank loads and got a very reasonable bill and fab service especially the cornflake chicken nuggets ( hapke). Did anybody get the recipe in the end as Logan loved them?

Had our best holiday out there yet and Logan has come home with yet another nickname "Jerry Junior" (JJ) as he copied everything our instructor did which caused a few scares but wouldn't be Logan if he didn't give me a few anxious moments Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

The only thing to worry about now is the dilemma of what to do next year with tour operators not going to Plovdiv. There were strong indications of improvements around the resort addressing the issues posters have and from speaking to locals there are lots more due to be made for next season. I think next year snow permitting could be a great year for the resort if only the tour operators use Plovdiv otherwise only the die hards will suffer the Sofia transfer and many could fail to feel the benefit of all the hard work which is being made to improve the resort. But for me after the fab year I had this year I can't see me wanting to go anywhere else so just need to work out the best way around it and soon so we have something to look forward too for next year and keep my fingers crossed I can get back out at Easter ( only 7 wks and counting) Razz Razz
