Hi to anyone about to travel to Bulgaria via Plodiv!
We have just come back from Pamp - any one about to go for first time - stop worrying its brill!
However our flight was slightly delayed on way home and you need to ensure that you take to the airport the following items
water, food & snacks, papers/books etc and for kids something to amuse.
This is because the airport departure lounge is s tin shed! with one toilet (filthy!) and a duty free shop that has no stock at all, and ...

It is poorly heated and has rows of metal benches. The Bulgarians obviously account for this, cos the few coming back on our flight had thermos's, and pack lunches as well as blankets!
We were only delayed 2 hours and were able to bribe the passport control to fetch us drinks (with a leves commission of course!) I think they made their entire wage for the month!) - but forewarmed is forwarned!

Agreed Plovdiv airport is pretty dire.No duty free or refreshments and not much heating.
We'd saved some levas for last minute gifts :-(
Wouldn't want to spend more than the 4 hours, we were there, after a delay due to ice on the plane back to East Midlands.
The good news is that it's due to be upgraded in 2005 according to a source on the net.
Anyone's thoughts on the Balkan Holidays old Tupelov 154M jets?
Ours were very rattly with rather dirty toilets.

Last year we went with Balkan Holidays from Manchester, the plane was a bit old and a few pieces of masking tape held it together. the seats were in the laid back position the whole time. Apart from that it was great, and we are doing it again on the 17th Jan.

Histman - you were on the same flight as me !!
We we only at the airport 2 hours though since the minibus to the airport didn't bother turning up and we were two hours late getting there !
It's a good job it was delayed otherwise we would have been spending all week in Plovdiv airport.
Planes are a little old - we stayed on that flight to Newcastle - where it took two attempts to land it because apparently there was a problem with the landing gear !!
