Never again!
All the worst aspects of the package holiday airports of the 70's and early 80's.
Went to Sofia last year but did not want the 4 hour transfer to Pamps this year.
WRONG!!!
Believe me all the time will be made up, 1 hour to get luggage when you arrive, totally unprepared for the volumes of people when checking in, fights in queues etc etc. Nowhere to sit, fraught passengers a bad end to the holiday.
Got home at 5am today a journey of over 12 hours!
Our experience of Plovdiv was very different we arrived about midnight last Saturday and collected luggage quickly. Coming back yesterday checking in took a while but would only have been waiting in departure lounge longer otherwise.
I think it depends totally on where you are in the queue. If there's a plane before you then it can be a non too pleasant experience, if you're off on the first of the night (used to be day but the increase in flights has meant earlier leaving times) then it's very straight forward. Haven't ever had a problem on arrival though.

At last. A person that says how it is. For some reason, when a Brit etc goes on his or her well earned hols we dont mind that the flight is late, the aiport crap, the local police or security staff at the airport idiots. The coaches are 50 years old for the hotel transfer. If more of us pointed out just how Cra* most package holiday travel arrangements are it might just get a bit better. Why is it places like Bulgaria and greece dont bother to upgrade their 1930's airports? Because ...

That said, I had a great time in Borovets early Feb, people great etc. And yet, the airports pants!!
Lets all be a little less nice from time to time, we are being taken for a ride by our 1 year old holiday companies with the 13 year old reps.
Adam - best way to get around the common gripes regarding tour companies - arrange your own holiday.
It does not take much more effort to book it, you can travel on the day of the week it suits you (mid-week=quieter!), stay longer then the 6 days enforced by package companies and it will generally save you money.
Self catering accommodation means you can eat out (away from dodgy hotel food) or stay in and cook up a feast!
Simonski, you pay next to nothing for your weeks ski holiday, what did you expect, a few queues at a very small airport with the friendliest security staff we have ever come across, a coffee bar, clean loos what do you need? You got your bag you got to the hotel and presumabley got home OK isn't that enough, just remember the mountain it was a ski holiday for goodness sake.
last year we had probs at the airport due to Sophia being shut by snow!!! But everyone was good tempered and fine. this year through both ways with no delays. You get what you pay for folks and anyway its part of the bulgarian experience just go prepared to relax and put up with a bit of inconvenience
Petros, you may say that but Bulgaria is not that much cheaper anymore and I noticed a definate increase in the prices this year.
However my complaint is not about the overall holiday or resort (Pamps) which was great even with the lack of snow but only about the airport all it needs is a little more organisation, it just cannot cope especially if (as in our case) there are delays and therefore more people than expected in the airport.
Having said all that am already looking at booking for ...
