Plovdiv to Borovets hire car or taxi

Hi all,

I've been reading the forum for a month or so and gained so much information, thanks to everyone for sharing with us all.

I got a few questions - hoping someone familiar with Borovets can help. I'm heading out and staying at Hotel Rila 8-12 March

1) Does the Hotel Rila charge guests for car parking? If so how much is it per day?

2) Are there are other car parks in the resort you would recommend using ? Are they free/safe?

3) I have done some research and cheapest hire car company to hire car for 4/5 days Plovdiv airport to Borovets seems to be with Moto Roads (£20 /day)

http://www.motoroads.com

anyone used them or recommend other hire car company thats reasonable and reliable?

4) I have driven in Bulgaria before and know the pros/cons (albeit I only driven in the summer months), but can anyone give directions from plovdiv airport to borovets... I have english/bulgarian map but know the signs can sometimes be misleading (or missing!)

Is it A1 Plovdiv to Kostenec

then take road to Dolna Banja onto Raduil and then into Borovets??

5) for those that will say DON'T DO IT i.e. forget hire car and get taxi... can someone recommend a reliable and reasonable cost for taxi transfer ( will be two of us) - I believe it could cost up to £100 return

6) In order to help come to a decision re: hire car or taxi... whats the roads like at the moment as it appears to be snowing ....?

Cheers all!
Paddy

re: Plovdiv to Borovets hire car or taxi

Hey Paddy there are regular buses from Plovdiv via Borovez, just 4 or 5 a day, may be this will be an idea, the roads after Kostenec are real bulgarian style.
Have seen nothing much cheaper as motoroads.
May be its the faster way to find a transfer, have you checked motoraods transfers???

re: Plovdiv to Borovets hire car or taxi

hi Sune

Thanks for the reply. I'm sort of going off the idea of hire car the more I think about it..... so probably will look into alternate transfer to taxi which turns out expensive at £100 or up to 150 euros return... more than the flights out from UK!!!

I guess for bus you get taxi from plovdiv airport to plovdiv city and then locate buses to Borovez... I recall a posting about buses recently will search for that to see if bus transfer is feasible or not

If anyone has details of ...

re: Plovdiv to Borovets hire car or taxi

Of corse paddy look here avtogari.info look for english side and then Plovdiv to Samokov, they all going via Borovez. So even possible go to Kostenec and then catch a taxi, I payed 30 lev two years ago to Samokov, first they want to charge 40....So if you speak some bulgarian you can have a good chance, but your stop is short and then you have too ski anytime you can....
