Pre holiday exercise! (Scotland!)

Popping up to Aviemore for a couple of days after Christmas, before we go to Borovets on Jan 9th cos theres skiing on at Cairngorm now, runs are filling in with more snow expected. Teletext BBC page 421 has the details.
Gets the pre proper skiing exercise done! (the missis isnt impressed though I am leaving her at home!)

Ian

I got the ski-Scotland brochure sent through the post, and it looks mighty impressive, thinking of visiting a Scottish ski resort in the near future. Nevis Range (for whatever reason) is appealing to me

Hi
yep Nevis is good and the only Gondola in scotland, if your a good skier theres some good off piste too (conditions permitting). However Aviemore is a good base cos you can go within an hours driving to either the Lecht (1 hour max), cairngorm (20 mins), Glenshee (1 hour 30 mins) or Nevis (about the same time as Glenshee).
Cairngorm has the new Funicular railway up to the top, so if its windy you can still get up to the top basin, (replaced the old chairlifts), plus the night life in ...

have you your own skis or do you intend to hire at the mountain?

Its not cheap!, (about £25,hire then lift pass etc) if you have your own gear take it, but if your going to hire i would advise if skiing Cairngorm, not hire from the mountain hire shop itself ,but from a hire shop along the ski road called the Glenmore forrest ski shop.(beside the caravan park)
you cant miss it along the road, its cheaper, and the skis/boards are better quality and waxed daily unlike the mountain hire, (despite what they may claim!).

Mid week is best to avoid the crowds, but since the kids are on holiday next week I expect it to be rather busy. aviemore is allways packed at New year anyway, they know how to party!
