What i mean t about the flat tax rate was a set fee for all of us a % of earnings etc...eg 25% For all etc..Fair system, it will be going that way soon- like many parts of europe are converting too.I am in the 40% bracket ( unfortunately or fortunately depending on how u look at it)and I just been clobbered with a £5600 company car tax on BMW 5series.

If it is that bad clive, leave yourself.The grass is always greener mate and life must be tough already in the higher tax bracket with a bmw 5 series.

why have we got onto the subject of tax, I know they are talking about doubling the travel tax but where did the rest come from, lets get back to skiing before this gets out of hand.re: Previous comment
Clive, to own a 5 series and pay for the upkeep how much would it cost you?Maybe that 5k doesn't look as bad now.

Clive, with all due respect you, you have not been 'clobbered' for anything. You have been asked to pay what's due under the current system of tax payments. Nobody could possily have forced you to take a company car, nor specified which car you would be required to take. I believe you must have had some personal responsibility in that decision. I think you should swoop your BMW for a smart Car, just think with the savings you can just afford a skiing holiday in Switzerland (well a weekend Stay)
