Prices for buying equipment in Borovets

I am off out to Borovets (feb 19) for our first ski holiday outside Austria/France/Italy.
I am looking to buy 3 helmets and maybe one pair of skis.
What are the prices like in the resort, or should I buy here in the UK before I go?
One last question, is the hire equipment a good standard?
Thanks.

I would have a look in uk, we found prices pretty high in Bansko for skis and helmets, cant coment on boro. We got helemts in the sale last year for £29 from castleford. I got skis in sales a couple of years ago for £246 including bindings. some really good deals on ebay for new skis as long as you know the length you want, got my daugter a pair og rossignals last year for £138 with bindings (brand new).

re: Prices for buying equipment in Borovets

I purchased a pair of boots in Borovets the season before last. Paid about £100 for Nordica. Seemed a good deal to me but be careful with the fitting. Three of us purchased helmets last season in Borovets. The prices were very good but by shopping around I managed to pick up an Arnette helmet with speakers for under £30...........bargain. It was the last one and on sale.

There is a lot of choice, not everything is cheap nor is it all fake but best to shop around and try to haggle and also if they take credit cards (not all of them do) by paying on the card you are likely to have got a much better exchange rate when the bill comes in. That could be a saving as high as 10%.
