Promoting Pamporovo Pete

Pete,
Scrolling down Anita's silly thread is a pain. As you monitor this forum you can pick up my e-mail address. My question is a simple one. How do we bring tourists back to Pamps in numbers??? My web site to promote skiing for schools is http://web.me.com/msips/Bulgaria_for_Schools/Welcome.html

Increasingly my comments re value are being challenged. You appear to take issue with this but the lack of tourists speaks for itself. I skied in Pamps twice last year in good snow ...

Increasingly my comments re value are being challenged. You appear to take issue with this but the lack of tourists speaks for itself. I skied in Pamps twice last year in good snow conditions but the place was empty by comparison with five years ago!!! The resort has improved everything in the past five years so why have the tourists gone!!!

re: Promoting Pamporovo Pete

Have seen a great deal about the Perelik project, talk of 200 kms of linked pistes over the next 5-10 years. It actually seems to be happening, could this be the rebirth of the area, this amount of piste would put the area in the big league.

I have sent you an answer under Anitas thread before I read this post.

I certainly do not have any issues with you Fluter - we both are hoping for the same thing but for reasons I put on the other post, I cannot see this happening soon. All I have stated are facts - as are yours, they just see things from a different prespective.

I have been championing Pamporovo on this site now for over 10 years, and believe me I have had more hassle, threats, and insults over that than you could ever begin to imagine.

Viruses sent to my computer, people threatening my family, people ringing me at 3am in the morning to have a go - yes I 've had all of those. And all because I have defended Bulgaria and their people.

So don't see my posts as being anything more than trying to protect what we both love.

If we can't agree then sobeit - but for us to fall out over it would be a little bit like being caught up in friendly fire. And I don't think either of us want that.

Cool

Yeah. Its happening. So much has improved over the past five years in terms of facilities. Bulgaria, however, was always famous for simply being Bulgaria! Its ironic that with all the improvements over the past five years that the number of tourists from Ireland has dropped by 66% over that time. That's why I would love to hear how we bring the tourists back.

Chepelare is a brilliant little resort if limited. Great new facilities and better snow at the end of last season than Pamps ...

Chepelare is a brilliant little resort if limited. Great new facilities and better snow at the end of last season than Pamps yet totally deserted!!!

Brings me back to my initial question. How do we bring the tourists back in numbers!

Pete

I don't disagree with you and will not fall out over this or any other issue benefiting Pamps. You can pick up my e-mail address and contact me. I just want to help the people living there. I learned to ski in Pamporovo. I have had the benefit of some of the best ski instructors in the world there and regard them among my closest friends.

I am happy to send you a copy of the DVD I made in March promoting Bulgaria. You will see that most of it is leaning towards Pamporovo and Chepelare. My point is that despite the infrastructure improving beyond recognition over the last five years the number of tourists has diminished. The only other thing that has changed is prices so my argument is that Pamporovo is missing its market by removing its key attraction. Snow cannon and opening the Perelik mountain, now that the military are no longer, there is only compensating for the increasing lack of snow at lower levels.
