Property

Hi,

I am just curious about the property situation in Bansko. Is the market picking up and is it likely to ever pick up?
I bought a place a few years ago and am paying a mortgage, its in negative equity and am concerned that I'll never be able to get out.
Any serious thoughts please?

Warm regards

Aron

Returned from Bansko on Thursday and thought i would post a quick update on the resort.

The town itself is developing, not as fast as in previous years but the obvious credit crunch is having an affect.

Plenty of decent bars and great local mexanha's. The Nightlife is plenty for a ski resort - and the end of the day its not easy to burn the candle at both ends.

The queues for the gondola were suprising long for this time of year, although we were informed that it was a Romanian/Serbian school holiday. No matter what time we got there we seemed to queue.Even at 11:30 or 8:15.

On the last day we got there at 8:00 and were still at the bottom of the stairs, but that wasn't a problem, but within 10 minutes the queue had stretched out of the door.

What is always suprising though is that once you get up the mountain you rarely queue for more than 5 minutes!!!

The conditions of the slopes were the best I have ever experienced in Bansko, and last year took some beating. Honestly they were probably some of the best conditions i have skied anywhere.

There are still grumbles about the management of the queues and still grumbles about the pace of progress in the resort. But the new shopping mall, the planned waterpark that is well on its way and the activities springing up for the summer season, give some optimisim.

I am an investor, but wrote that investment off a couple of years ago, but i am still a keen fan of the place and think Bansko has a great feel to it. The mountains and the views are spectacular. Despite losing a number of tens of thousands of pounds I for one have good memories and many future visits planned!!

Anyone going this season should have a ball !!

re: Property

Hi Aron,

I guess you can be lucky. As you said you had bought your apartment some years ago you may have paid a proper price. At the moment the market in BG is going up, so there is no chance for selling it. Hold on, one day you will realize the amount of your investment. Good thing takes time.

re: Property

Hi Ed
thanks for that.

While i was there the elusive 2nd gondola seems to more than just a dream. But i suppose we could all say that we have heard that said many times. who knows!!!

I think anyone who has invested will be out of pocket financially for a long time. The plus though for me is that without this investment i would never have never have discovered Bansko or ever learned to ski.Neither would my kids who are now 8 & 6 and can ski better than me!!!!

Good Times!!
