Question of Charity status for Orphanage

Many of you have asked the million dollar question about why we have not yet registered as a charity and I wanted to update you.

I have made enquiries and taken advice from the Charity Commission in London regarding registering as a Charity. They advised that the Fund Raising we are doing for the heating fund is completely legal and that they would not consider registering us as a charity unless £5,000+ was donated in any one year and guaranteed ongoing.

I have made enquiries and taken advice from the Charity Commission in London regarding registering as a Charity. They advised that the Fund Raising we are doing for the heating fund is completely legal and that they would not consider registering us as a charity unless £5,000+ was donated in any one year and guaranteed ongoing.

As it is the intention to continue supporting and helping the children in many ways apart from this initial heating appeal I have requested an application pack which Amanda, Carole and I can look at when we are all in BG together. " I have a little experience of serving as a Board Member of a registered Charity, and therefore it is my personal opinion that you should remain un-regulated by the Charities Commission for as long as possible. As you rightly point out, the administrative costs will rise, and a whole rain forest of paper-work will be generated, and even more of your personal time will be swallowed up.

Provided that you continue to be open to questioning, and are able to disclose detailed finances to those who need to see them, then surely no need to change things in the short/medium term ?

Keep up the good work ! """"

Hope this underlines where we are at the moment. Thanks Andie Smile
