re: Queues - Bansko
if you are a snowboarder bansko is the place for you. its fantastic. borovets is crap, the moans about queues are just skiers trying to put you off. steve.g
it's just a busy time... when i went end of january last year, the most i queued besides the first day when you get to the gondola late (which was about 20-30 mins) was 5-10 mins maximum, it put us off going Bansko before, but wasn't an issue and going back again this year, every run open even though not best conditions, its all about the snow cannons!
The queues have been 4-5hrs this new year holiday. Half term can be busy too mainly the 2nd week of half term.
Apart from that queues are not too bad. Last year you did see some sort of queues nearly all season but this was due to the snow being excellent and vitosha being closed last year which meant alot of Sofians turning up on the weekends.

I own an apartment in Bansko and go there three times a year (have done for seven years). I have never seen queues like the last week year to the extent that we didn't ski other than come down the ski road late in the afternoon (I have the luxury of going back later in the season) since I refuse to queue for several hours. The police were even stopping cars driving up the mountain (my usual trick to avoid the gondola queues) since the car parks at the top were full.

We will not go to our apartment over the Christmas/New Year period again after this experience.
I guess if your early enough you will miss them anyway... get there for 8 when it opens and you will be straight on, the later it gets the longer the queue gets till about dinner time. longest we queued last year was hour and a half and we got there about half 9, probably peak time. so aim for 8 or 11.
No problems end of Jan.. queues are now dying down, the Russians not arriving in the expected numbers (poor snow forecast or prices ??) It will be ok for the next few weeks, until half term.. then busy again, how busy ?? god knows
