I think I saw a documentry on Whakapapa on Sky am I right ? In the middle of the season they sold the resort to a major company and everyone was worried about their jobs. Some of the employeees torched their accomodation and trhere was a rave by the lake.
If it is the same resort it looked really good and relaxed. It seems like a cheaper option than Chile and I wouldn't need to learn Spanish.
Do you know of anyone who does package holidays to there ?
Gidday Dave, Yep thats the one. The lake you saw the rave on would have been Lake Taupo.
I put a load of details about it with prices on a new post a couple of days ago but it was removed. I guess they didn't like me selling my own country even though I am a fan of BG.
Here are some links to have a look at for rates. E-mail me and I'll give you as much info as possible.

I forgot to say. Yes you are right. There are 3 resorts on the Volcanoe. Whakapapa, Turoa and a club feild called Tukino. After the volcanoe erupted in 95-96 as it does every 50 or so years, Turoa had some bad seasons. The company that owned Whakapapa, Ruapehu Alpine Lifts bought out Turoa so the two feilds are combined. In the future there is talk of trying to put a lift to the top of the volcanoe so you can go up one resort and ski down the other.
