Around 1000 protesters from southwestern Bulgarian resorts Bansko, Razlog and Dobrinishte have blocked the international E-79 road near the small town of Simitli, informs BGNES.
They demand from the Bulgarian government to approve a construction project of a new ski lift and new ski slopes in Pirin National Park, reports BGNES. Local residents are strongly supporting the project and argue that such project would improve the region’s infrastructure and would make that the whole region more attractive to investors and tourists, but the government has yet to announce its final position.
Protesters are angry at the government for protracting its decision on the
matter even though deputy PM Daniela Bobeva met with representatives of the tourist sector from Bansko, Razlog and Dobrinishte in September and stated that the government firmly supports the construction of a new ski lift. Novinite.com (Sofia News Agency)

1.000 protestors
Why do they want a second gondela more ski runs yes but another main gondela for what 6-12 days of the year when its full capacity. All they need to do is open the lifts 30-60mins earlier for those days (or even 90mins) pay the staff overtime job done. Everyone happy.
Instead build a big new gondela which will meet max demand for those few days but then way too much main gondela capacity and not enough pistes.

So if the current gondela can provide capacity for all the pistes as is then what will this second one actually be for? If its the set up for minimum doubling the number of pistes then yep makes sense but otherwise the payback is an utter joke or way beyond the economical life of the new lift.
I hope they do make new runs.
I can understand why the locals want another gondela as building it will give them lots of jobs for years of its construction however creating more pistes might not generate as many or they may not have the skill set?

Not all locals want another Gondola Gareth, many have the same or similar thoughts to you about the limited number of days that this would bring relief and would prefer other measures being used.
