Return to Borovets after 24 yrs.

Have just returned returned from Borovets, last visited February 1983 !!
Has it changed ? You bet - but mostly for the better.
In 1983 there was no Rila, Samakov Hotels or any of the surrounding bars or restaurants. Only place for apres ski was the bar at the bottom of the "China" now the Red Rose strip bar !!
This year we stayed at the Iglika Palace Hotel, small and friendly. Staff were excellent and the food fine, we had 9 kids in our group and they never went hungry. 2 guys that run ...

This year we stayed at the Iglika Palace Hotel, small and friendly. Staff were excellent and the food fine, we had 9 kids in our group and they never went hungry. 2 guys that run the bar were superb.
The hotel has a decent swimming pool and for a small fee a sauna, steam room, ice room, solarium and massages facilities.
The gala dinner on News Year Eve was brilliant, 4 course dinner with plenty of free wine, champagne and soft drinks for the kids.
New Years Eve itself will be remembered by everyone for years to come - it was awesome !
The resort - lively and plenty of choice where to eat or drink, the Buzz Bar being the most popular with the older kids as it was cheap and has a happy hour that seems to last all night !!
Skiing - due to lack of snow at start of the week was very limited, however after the snowfall skiing on Thursday and Friday was brilliant. But more snow is needed as those pesky boarders sweep on the new snow off after a day or so !
2 criticisms of Borosports, the people that run the resort.
Firstly, after the snowfall they were slow to react and get new pistes and lifts open. and secondly Ski School can be a bit hit or miss, as per earlier posting by Doc. The class I was in was lumbered with a family of 4 that had pre-booked this particular instructor 2 months ago as they has been taught by him 3 times previously.Needless to say we were held back by the speed of their 10yr old daughter and were taught nothing. Final straw came when he didn't turn up at all one day !! We complained and asked to be moved to another class, the new instructor (Tony) was the best I ever had, simply brilliant.
All in all brilliant holiday and would not wait another 24 yrs to return.

Top report tony - heading off there myself on the 27th.

Seems like you are teh only person to write that the food in any of the hotels was good!!

I know it is a sad question - are there towels in the rooms or have we got to take our own (i did not think of this - the other half did!!!)

Better addressing that question TJ to someone who has recently stayed in the same hotel.
