... and looks like just in time. If Bansko is shut at the moment, there will be alot of v. unhappy people as it is half term just now!!!!!
A group of us returned from Bansko on Sunday. What a GREAT week. There was TONS of snow, not a brown patch in sight, and the sun was shining nearly all week.
We stayed in the Strazhite (pronounced more like Strazhda). Probably one of the best located hotels currently for the gondola, but most are either within walking distance or have a regular bus. ...

We stayed in the Strazhite (pronounced more like Strazhda). Probably one of the best located hotels currently for the gondola, but most are either within walking distance or have a regular bus. If you are staying at the Strazhite, ask them where your room is when you arrive. Rooms are not easy to find, you may be arriving late at night or early in the morning and you can not roll your cases quietly!
Food was OK in the hotel, but to be quite honest we ate out most nights. I think if I was going again, I would have a salad in the hotel early, then go out to eat a little later. If you enjoy a nice cuppa at breakfast – you will need tea bags! Pool in the hotel was on the chilly side, but it had a lovely sauna and steam room to warm you up. The hotel reception gave one of the best exchange rates available at 2.7.
Queues for the lifts were non existent. A great improvement over Pamporova in previous years. We only tried a couple of places to eat on the slopes, both at the top of the gondola. The food at the fast food place was OK, but generally fairly cold, the place next door was waiter service and generally better.
Tips. Get to the boot room as early as you can on the 1st day. Boot sizes look as if they are Euro and UK, but the UK sizes are actually American. So if you take a size 8/9 as I do, you will need a size 10! You take your boots back to the hotel every evening, which can be a bit of a pain if you are stopping for a little après ski, but there is locker room just under the stairs up to the gondola. Each locker costs 3 LEV per day, but you can get 3 pairs of boots per locker!
Met Crazy Lady while we were out there. Didn't seem all that crazy to be - but what a bad influence she is
Liam,Glad to hear you had a great time.
45 of the Failsworth Gangsters have already booked for same week next year 22/01/2006

Lord Lewis of Marston
I think it might be interesting to go at the same time as the Failsworth 45... but I think you'll be taking over the whole town....
... Maybe I should try one of the new Hotels again - it's interesting to book a place that's just an artist's impression! And they're eager to please (plus the mafia seem to like them too as there seemed to be quite a few stayng at the Perun on Friday night.
