Brief Review:
Overall a fantastic holiday. Snow was very good after the first day. Good Apres-ski with alot of choice of places. Food not so good but had been warned about this. Met some fantastic people that made the holiday for me.

Hotel:
The rooms were basic but most importantly clean and warm. There was always loads of warm water for a shower, beds were comfortable and clean towels everyday. Location is very good as well, 5 mins walk for the centre.
Food was the major sticking point with the hotel, it was not good. Breakfast was ok as I just had a basic breakfast not cooked. Dinner was not very good at all, same cold food everynight. Whilst I appreciate that Bulagrians like the food luke warm but this was just cold and poor quality.
The reception staff were not helpful, first of all I thought this was just Bulgarian staff in general but I did find others helpful.

Snow and Weather:
The snow on the Sunday was a bit on the icey side but I have skied in a lot worse. We then had a good snow and the skiing was fantastic. The upper part of the resort was all deep snow which made for great fun skiing. After a couple of days the snow conditions became absolutely perfect.
Weatherwise, it was a bit misty up on the top for a couple of days over the week but nothing too terrible. When it was windy the gondola was closed but speaking with our instructor he did say they are looking at a new gondola that they can use in windy conditions.

Ski School
We booked the ski school through Fiona from here and that was a good decision. Met her on the Sunday morning and she took us to the ski school and got everything sorted for us. I want to thank Fiona for sorting this out for us.
The Albena ski school, opposite the Royal Plaza, were simply excellent. The equipment was of a good quality and in good condition, they waxed the skis for us on a regular basis.
We had Dimi as out tutor and he taught me so much more than thought I would learn in the week. I was already an intermediate level skier but by the end of the week I was confidently going down black runs without a second thought, and I have improved my technique no end.

Apres-Ski
Over the first couple of days we met a group of people from the ski school of all different levels and we all went for a drink or 3 straight after skiing. We only really went to the pub at the bottom of the nursery slope (the one with Jimmy stood outside). The place was nice and warm inside and a grat place to discuss the days exploits on the snow.
In the evenings we all went out asa group and went a little all over, although on the couple of evenings the Kareoke bar was graced with out presence, this is always a funny night out.

Food
As I mentioned earlier the food in the hotel was not very good so for a couple of breakfasts we went to Chilli Peppers for their large breakfast which was excellent - 15lev and you got a full english breakfast including coffee or Tetley tea.
Mamagites (I think thats how you spell it), the mexican restaurant, w$as very nice and possibly the best meal we had. Frankos was a nice meal as well, I had a chicken curry which was just like a pub curry in the UK so I wasa happy enough with that.
There was also a little pizza place called 'PIZZA' next to the Ela hotel, you can see its neon sign from the Samokov Hotel. Very basic pizza's but very nice.
DO NO GO TO: The Red Lion Steak House, the food was terrible 25lev for some processed frozen chicken in a terrible mushroom sauce made from canned mushrooms. Plus they would not let two people sit at a table for 4 so we were pushed into a corner.

Inghams
There service was absolutely fine. The only downside would the company they have got to do their flights, Monarch. All on time but I have never been on a plane with less than 12 inches leg room. It was beyond a joke the amount of people they were cramming in and then charging for drinks!!

Overall
I had a fantastic time, met some brilliant people, have learnt so much at the ski school and skied on some near perfect snow! Would I go back of course I would only thing would be a different hotel.

Once again I would like the thank Fiona for sorting out the Ski School for us

re: Review of Borovets - 07/03 to 14/03

Hi Kenny,
Nice to hear your time in Borovets was a success and that the ski conditions were good.
It also helps to be working with a great bunch of ski instructors that get very good reports.
My hubby has been up the week just been and said the snow is very good. Even better when you get a fall of snow overnight! Very Happy
See you both again soon Very Happy
Fiona Very Happy
