Rila (an overview)

Just returned from first ever skiing holiday.
Hotel Rila. Clean and comfortable rooms, if you leave your door open and a security gaurd walks past they tell you to shut the door but don't tell you why.
The resort itself was a bit Blackpool without the donkeys. You couldn't walk down the street without being hassled to come into resturants and bars all claiming to be the best in town.
At night there were alot of beggers about.

Food in the hotel. If you are not fussy what you eat then ...

Food in the hotel. If you are not fussy what you eat then its fine. But hot it is not. Breakfast not bad but for evening meal, eat out.

Swimming pool is very nice but be very carefull, the tiles are lethel when wet. my son slipped and cut his eye, i slipped and bruised my shin.

Night life. Having two young sons i didn't get to see much of it, but the flyers i had given me throughout the day for erotic bars i am sure i could have been quite entertained.

Skiing. A complete novice at the begining of the week i was very competant by the end of the week. This was all thanks to Stephan the ski instructer. He was excellent, He was very patient and made us all believe in ourselves. We were supposed to have four hours tuition per day, but he was with us from 9.30 - 5.00.

France or Austria it is not but we had a great time and thinking of booking up again for next year,

Great report. How do you know that it is not France or Austria when this was your first skiing holiday ?

Hi
Glad you had such a good holiday but sorry to hear of your accidents in the Rila pool. I guess we will still be using it - do I need to take swimming towels? How do they organise the ski classes? by travel agent/hotel/first come? We are staying at the Rila and travelling with Inghams. Finally did you hear of any of the instructers giving cross country skiing lessons? Question

I have spent one week on skiis and now consider myself very competent, he must have been a fantastic instructor. I shall look out for TP on the TV competing with Bode in two weeks time. Come back and tell us how competent you are after a few more seasons.

re: Rila (an overview)

is there a lot of bars open at night?
Which ones would you reccomend for two 18year old lads?

re: Rila (an overview)

Your reps should take you on a pub crawl on first night and that should give you a reasonable idea. Big screen sky football is advertised outside various bars. Buzz is good- definitely cheaper than France or Austria. Your money goes much further than in England. This time next week I'll be getting ready to watch footy in Buzz YES!!! Booze Booze Booze

re: Rila (an overview)

In answer to your questions. You could take the hotel towels down to the pool, the maids change them daily.
Ski instructors seem to work for the hotel. You will be asked of your skiing experience and put into groups with people of the same ability. The instructers are very patient and very friendly.
