Don't order pizza - they're not very nice.

If you order a 'hamburger' you may get what you ask for.

Check your change when you buy something.

Haggle taxi prices.

Don't shake your head at a beggar, it means the opposite of what it means here.

Don't dress too warm, one pair of socks is better than two.

If you see a Smith google bag lying around, please can you send it to me.

Hey - we're going out on 4th Feb... Staying at Iglika Villas, behind Rila hotel.
This will be our third time to Borovets, we were there over Xmas/New Year and bought an apartment out there. It's fantasitc - you'll have a great time!
Here are our tips etc...

Make sure everyone in your group has good footwear for walking around the resort in the evenings i.e. if any girls are going, don't bother with high heels! You're more likely to fall over and hurt yourself in the evening than on ...

Make sure everyone in your group has good footwear for walking around the resort in the evenings i.e. if any girls are going, don't bother with high heels! You're more likely to fall over and hurt yourself in the evening than on the slopes!

Clothes under ski jacket and sallopets. Best to get thermal base layer, where these with a fleece under your jacket and sallopets and you'll be warm and dry. THat said, when we flew out on 27th December, our luggage got left at Gatwick, so we copped just wearing long sleeved T-shirts. It's not that cold at resort level, but remember it's alot colder at the top of the slopes!

Check out the "Black Tiger", just up the slopes, on the right as you walk out of the Rila Hotel. It does two happy hours a night, i think they're between 7 -9pm and 11 - 1am. Two for one on beer and local spirts and mixers. They do Karaoke (sp?) just about every night and the place isusually packed with English having a laugh (oh yeah, and the toilets are ok there as well - this is how you'll end up juding places out there!!). We spent new year 05/06 there and had a right laugh (from what i can remember!!).
THe Buzz Bar is a pub/night club. It's quite grim but there happy hour is about 3pm - 8pm i think, pretty cheap!
Best place to eat is Katy's Steak and Wine Pub, along the main street near Samkov Hotel. It's more expensive that most places in Borovets, but you get what you pay for - worth the extra!! Silver Eagle is quite good as well, and reasonably priced (with a roaring log fire!)
Stay clear of the "Golden Chicken" - they tried to charge us for food we didn't order, and it's hard to argue when you can't speak the language.

Worth taking a rucksac with you to take up the slopes to keep your stuff safe. Take a bottle of water as well (expensive at the top of the mountain!).

Oh dear, i've gone on too much! It's just i love the place and can't wait to go back!!!

HAve fun!

re: Rila - Borovets

Just got back after being out there for christmas/new year, stayed in the iglika palace and this was our 2nd year there already booking for next year. Would reccommend Joys by the gondala for the best pizza around, the chinese was good aswell and so was the food in the black cat, avoid angels bar behind the ice angel hotel, the food was crap and so was the service. We ended up just wearing t-shirts and thermal leggings under our ski wear, hope you have got good ski socks as i suffered badly ...

Have a good time.

re: Rila - Borovets

Probably see you there!
I'll be either on my back having fallen over on the slopes, or on my back having fallen over drunk.
My husband you will recognise from the disparing look on his face, as his lightweight wife falls foul of the Bulgarian vodka again...!
