Rila Hotel Borovets

Came back from borovets on the 18th march. Had a great time!

The 4* rating for the hotel rila is more a 2* to us Brits. However our room was clean so we cant complain. The bedroom only had 1 radiator and although it was warm e you could do with the extra radiator to dry your clothes out after a days skiing.

The ski school although advertised as running 10-12 and then 2-4pm is not correct. As a group with your instructor you all decide what times suit. W started at 10 stopped for lunch ...

The ski school although advertised as running 10-12 and then 2-4pm is not correct. As a group with your instructor you all decide what times suit. W started at 10 stopped for lunch at 12 started again at 1pm and then finished when we wanted which for me was about 2-3pm.You do have flexibility. You all eat together as a group at the instructors chosen restuarant. They get their food for free wherever they eat.

The hot chocs are yummy with or without the baileys, whisky...The hot wines are also very nice and do a nice job of warming you up!

Food is cheap enough-pizza about £4, ribs and chips about £8. If you like your tea take your own tea bags out!

You will find that in the supermarkets they will not have change so you often dip out by 30p or so. This is not a great drama but it is irritating when they always do it and simply presume that you will be happy with getting no change! The supermarket in the Rila by reception is by far the most expensive and charges double what the supermarket at the far end of the shopping complex within the Rila grounds sells.

There were times where people tried to pull a fast one by charging us more for a drink. Just check the price before you order. This only happeed to us twice at the same place so it is an insolated incident.

My ski instructor was obsessed with making money from me and got huffy when i chose not to do ski-doo ( was not insured anyway for it) when i could not make the meal on presentation night as i had already booked a quiz and pizza night he got huffy as he makes a profit from where we eat and the entertainment that gets laid on. I also got harrased into buying a video (dvd option not available!) of us skiing in the week. He also went on about a tip. I dont mind tipping but i get annoyed when it is expected and someone blatantly asks for it!

The sun did not come out when we were there which is a shame as we wanted to see the great views at the top. However all the snow was great!

Met some lovely people especially those in my ski class-of which there were 10.

Borovets is a great place to go on a budget.

He was quie old (i'd say late 50's) quite well rounded! and reminded us of santa in his red ski suit!

Unfortunately he is the Krassi that gives ski instructors a bad name. I'm surprised he is still working for Borosport. Up until last year he always wore their old all in one yellow ski suits.

Yep! Santa is a good description of him!

re: Rila Hotel Borovets

Well the suit he was wearing was not waterproof as he was showing us how wet he was underneath.

He really did make me feel uncomfortable and to be honest he did ruin my holiday as i dreaded each day with him Crying
