Rila Hotel/Borovets review

Returned from Borovets on the 18th March. Stayed in the Rila hotel which is a bulgarian 4* which is the equiv of a 2* to us! This hotel is in an ideal location just by the ski school. We also had a balcony which looked out onto the slopes.

Food in hotel warm and not to my liking but I am very very fussy! We ate out mostly-pizzas, spag bol, steaks.Lots on offer and at a good price. The average pizza was £5. They do hot wine (£1.50 approx)which is very nice and warms you up a treat.Hot chocs ...

You often dont get small change as there never appears to be any, however we are talking30p here so not breaking the bank! It is more the fact that they do it all the time that is a bit irritating! Supermarket in the Rila right by the recpetion is expensive and you can pay half the price at the supermarket down the road

I had ski school for the week-note the first day is always the busiest but the instructors will wait for you if there are queues. You eat lunch together as a group and you go to a different restaurant every day. You have the flexibilty of finishing when you want in the afternoon. We started at 10am stopped for lunch at 12 started skiing at 1ish.I finished for the day at about 2-3pm. As a first time skier i enjoyed myself- i did parts of a red run by the end of a week.Of course you always have the option of walking part of the run if you are too scared to ski down a steep part! I really enjoyed going up in the ski lift and doing the x-country route- great scenery . We had about 10 of us in our group and they were all lovely people. At the end of the week you could buy a video of the group skiing which the instructor did. Cost us 30 lev which is about £12. This varies with each instructor.

As scenic as it was I would not go back only because i like to try different places. This resort is not challenging for the advance skier but for first timers it is ideal.

All the bad reports are not justifiable. Yes there are the odd niggles but what place doesn't have them?
