Rila is a decent choice. We went in January and are going again on the 10th March! Its true the food is not always hotest it might be but there is a microwave on hand, Loads of breakfast choice and it is cheap to eat out and most places are better at serving it hot. Borovets is as lively as you want it to be at night and Alpin is good for eating as is the Titanic and most other bars for the rest. We ate out in a different place each night and had a good experience, although the best was down in Samokov (cheap transport organised by the instructor) and this was a bit more authentic. Rila is as close as you will ever get to the slopes and if you can get a room at the front, there are fantastic views from the balconies - you will have a ball.

Rila's good. Going there on the 3rd for the 6th time. Foods OK. For adults no problem at all but if you have picky kids it can be a bit of a problem. I believe that traditionally Bulgarian food is served warm which is not what we are used to, that's why some people have a problem with it. Every year we have been the food has got better and better. If you don't like what you see on a particular day it's always cheap enough to eat out. If you like steak go to Kati's if it's Pizza your after go to Franco's. And if you want serious partying check out the Buzz Bar. All in all tho you'll have a great time.
Rila is so close to slopes you could ski in the door. Check out the web cam on this site its right above the front door of the Rila.
